N. C. SenGupta, the eleventh Governor of RBI, was appointed as interim Governor for a brief period of three months until the twelfth Governor; K R Puri could take over office. His tenure lasted from May 19, 1975 to August 19, 1975. Prior to this, he was the Secretary to the Department of Banking of the Ministry of Finance.

His tenure was pretty much uneventful, except for the presence of signature on Indian Rupee notes of denomination Rs. 1000.
